In 1803, seven hundred barracks were built on the territory of Coudekerque-Branche to house the third division of the fourth army corps. For two years (1803-1805), General Gudin will continually have his infantry execute maneuvers to make them the elite corps of "The Immortal Gudin Division".

General Louis Thévenet (1770-1846), Mayor of Coudekerque-Branche, also covered himself with glory on several battlefields of the 1st Empire such as Austerlitz, Auerstedt and Eylau.
