Val de Louyre and Caudeau

Val de Louyre et Caudeau is made up of 3 villages: Sainte-Alvère, Cendrieux and Saint-Laurent des Bâtons. It is crossed by the "Route Napoléon" for around 10km, an ancient Roman road linking Lyon and Bordeaux via Tulle. Napoleon's troops on their way to Spain and Bayonne passed through here on their way to and from Bordeaux. In 1815, Soulte's army re-crossed this part of the Périgord via this road during the retreat from Spain.

In addition to the Route Napoléon running through the 3 villages, a museum dedicated to Napoleon has been set up at the Château de la Pommerie in Cendrieux. In 1999, the Musée Napoléon de la Pommerie in Cendrieux, Périgord, opened its private collections of Imperial family memorabilia to the public in the intimate setting of this residence,

a hitherto unknown collection. A collection of over 600 items (objects, paintings and sculptures), 150 of which are listed as Historic Monuments, are presented by a direct descendant of the Bonaparte family in a residence listed as an ISMH (Inventaire Supplémentaire des Monuments Historiques).
