Performance by the Milan Symphony Orchestra of theEroica, This symphony was written by Beethoven between 1803 and 1804, initially dedicated to Napoleon Bonaparte and intended to reflect the grandeur of his time. The performance will be preceded by a reading of the ode Il Cinque Maggiowritten by Alessandro Manzoni in 1821 on the occasion of the death of Napoleon Bonaparte.
The concert is the first symbolic closing event of the bicentenary of the death of Napoleon in Italy. It is organised by the Verdi Orchestra of Milan, the Italian Bicentenary Committee and the Documentation Centre of the Royal Residences of Lombardy.
