The forum of European Federation of Napoleonic Cities-Destination Napoleon took place on 6 and 7 May at Palazzo Reale, Milan
On 6 and 7 May, the first Italian forum on European Federation of Napoleonic Cities–Destination Napoleon, organized in collaboration with the Directorate of Palazzo Reale of Milan and the Centro di Documentazione Residenze Reali Lombarde. The day of the 6th was dedicated to the conference Archives and Libraries. From Napoleonic history to its narrative.
The participants were welcomed by the students of the "Adriano Olivetti" Professional Institute of Monza.
About fifty people attended the many interesting and high quality speeches given by the heads of the most important Italian and European archives and libraries. The words of Charles Bonaparte, founder and honorary president of the Federation, and of Professor Luigi Mascigli Migliorini, member of the Federation's scientific committee, underlined how Napoleon's personality is still capable of conveying contemporary European messages and values today.
The round table discussion moderated by Roberto Race, member of the Federation's Scientific Committee, highlighted the communication and marketing potential of Napoleon and Napoleonic history, particularly in Italy.
The conference represented a first moment of exchange of practices and experiences between archives and libraries, and highlighted the role of the Federation as a tool to activate synergies and collaborations between territories at national and European level.
On 7 May, the Centro di Documentazione Residenze Reali Lombarde offered a tour of the park, gardens and groves of the Villa Reale in Monza, the summer residence of Eugene de Beauharnais, and the Duomo where the Iron Crown with which Napoleon was crowned King of Italy in 1805 is kept.
