Torres Vedras: illustration competition on the theme of the Resistance

The second illustration competition organised by Fábrica das Histórias - Casa Jaime Umbelino in partnership with the Rota Histórica das Linhas de Torres.

The Fábrica das Histórias - Casa Jaime Umbelino (FH-CJU), cultural centre of the Torres Vedras town council, in partnership with the Rota Histórica das Linhas de Torrespresents the second edition of its biennial illustration competition on the theme of "Resistance". The main aims are to promote illustration as an artistic discipline, to bring participating illustrators and students closer to the cultural heritage of Torres Vedras and to create new artistic content.

Authors in the field of illustration, who are legally of age, and secondary school students from the municipalities of the Rota Histórica das Linhas de Torres Vedras (RHLT) - Association for the Tourist and Heritage Development of the Torres Vedras Lines (Arruda dos Vinhos, Loures, Mafra, Sobral de Monte Agraço, Torres Vedras, Vila Franca de Xira, Bombarral and Lourinhã) may apply, submitting their work on paper and using a free technique, vertically, in the following formats: 30cmx40cm and A4, 21cm x29.7cm, respectively.

Entries for the competition must be made using the online form on the Torres Vedras Town Hall website, uploading a file of the work in JPEG format and at a resolution of 300 dpi. Original or digital works, printed on quality paper, must be identified by a signature on the back of the illustration only.

Entries must be sent by registered post with acknowledgement of receipt to the following address by 5 December: Fábrica das Histórias - Casa Jaime Umbelino, Rua Maria Barreto Bastos, n. 36, 2560- 350 Torres Vedras, Portugal.

On 19 February 2024, the works selected by the jury will be announced, i.e. the 25 best-rated illustrations, taking into account the criteria of relation to the theme, quality of execution and originality, according to the guest jury.

An exhibition of the selected illustrations will be held at the FH-CJU from 16 March to 31 July 2024. The authors in the field of illustration will receive a prize of €1,500 and €500 for 1st and 2nd place, and the illustrations will form part of the organisation's art collection.
