For the release of Ridley Scott's movie Napoleon, starring Joaquin Phoenix in the main role and Vanessa Kirby as Joséphine de Beauharnais, our member cities organised preview screenings of the film and other initiatives.
The world premiere of the movie will take place on Tuesday 14 November at the Salle Pleyel in Paris. Joaquin Phoenix, Vanessa Kirby and Tahar Rahim, as well as Ridley Scott, will be taking part in the event. On Tuesday 21 November at the Arlequin in Paris, the screening of the film will be followed by a debate with historians Jean Tulard and Charles-Éloi Vial and the editor-in-chief of Figaro Histoire, Geoffroy Caillet, moderated by historian Benoît Yvert.
The city of Braine-L'Alleud in Belgium is holding a preview of the film on Saturday 18 November at the Kinepolis-Imagibraine cinema.
On 21 November, a preview of the movie will be held at the Arletty cinema inAutun, followed by a debate with Marin Menzin, a doctoral student in modern history and a specialist in Napoleon, who will give his impressions and his historian's point of view on the movie. Marin Menzin will also be leading school sessions and a masterclass at the Lycée Militaire in the morning.
Before the film Napoleon, the cities of Montereau-Fault-Yonne will present the promotional video Destination Napoleon France, produced with the support of Ministry of Culture, and the programme for the 210th anniversary of the Battle of Montereau on Tuesday 21 November at the Confluence cinema in Varennes-sur-Seine.
A preview will also be held at Rueil Malmaison on 21 November at the Ariel cinema. On Saturday 2 December at the Médiathèque Auditorium, there will be a round-table discussion on "Napoleon in the Cinema" with Jean Tulard, a French academic and historian, and a leading specialist in Napoleon I and the Napoleonic era.
At the Rex cinema in Pontivy, on Sunday 26 November, soldiers and ladies from the First Empire will welcome you to the evening screening of the movie Napoleon. In addition, the cinema will be showing the Destination Napoleon France promotional video before each screening of the film.
The Brigade Vandamme association of Coudekerque-Branche , in First Empire dress, will be present at the film's screenings held at cinemas in: Ociné Dunkerque, on Wednesday 22 November for the 8.30pm screening; Ociné St Omer, on Friday 24 November for the 8.30pm screening; Pathé-cinéma- Calais, on Saturday 25 November for the 4pm screening.
Professor Luigi Mascilli Migliorini, member of the Scientific committee of the FECN–Destination Napoleon, will host a discussion on the figure of Napoleon on 23 November at 6.30pm at the Giunti Odeon bookshop and cinema in Florence, before the screening of the film.
As part of a series of Christmas events, the city of Slunj will be showing the film Napoléon on 16 December.
