Concert performance : St Helena, the Napoleonic legend
Saturday 9 October 2021 at 8.45pm, at the cultural centre La Lanterne in Rambouillet
Duration: 1h30
With Sainte-Hélène, Les Lunaisiens open a page of history in song. On 5 May 1821, Napoleon Bonaparte died. It was the end of the extraordinary saga of a little corporal who was to become Emperor of the French. Idolised or hated, it didn't matter: he was omnipresent, particularly in the world of song. Thousands of verses were written during Napoleon's lifetime, and others continued to be written until the beginning of the 20th century. His grey frock coat and little hat were sung, his victories appreciated and his defeats reviled. Accompanied by Les cuivres romantiques, the ensemble conducted by Arnaud Marzorati invites us to plunge into the martial and nostalgic world of Bonaparte's campaigns, and to savour the lament of the street singer who sometimes joins the ranks of the grognards, sometimes those of the conspirators.
