On 7 February 2024, Faenza hosted the first transnational meeting of the project "MED-Routes - Enhancing MED sustainable cultural tourism through the creation of eco-itineraries within European Cultural Routes", an Interreg EuroMED project dedicated to improving sustainable cultural tourism through four main themes Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe : The European Route of Ceramics, The Phoenicians' Route, The Routes of the Olive Tree and Destination Napoleon.

The municipality of Vila Franca de Xira, which is part of the Rota Histórica das Linhas de Torresis participating as an official partner on behalf of Destination Napoleon.

This major collaboration aims to enhance their cultural and historical heritage through the development of sustainable tourism routes at their crossroads, around the Mediterranean region. The eight European partners and four associated partners will work together over the next two years to create and disseminate a model of sustainable tourism at local level with a low environmental impact.
The project will directly involve local stakeholders and tourism and cultural operators, in order to assess the existence of virtuous behaviour in terms of environmental impact, the use of circular economy tools and approaches and, in general, the level of attention paid to environmental protection and sustainability.
