We are pleased to welcome the city of Herceg Novi, the first city in Montenegro to become a member of the European Federation of Napoleonic Cities.

On 16 June 2022, at the Federation's Board of Directors, the city's mayor, Stefan Katić, and two representatives of the Department of International Cooperation, Ivana Palikuća and Jovan Subotić, presented their city's heritage to other members.

The history of the town is closely linked to that of Dalmatia and the Illyrian provinces of the First Empire. On 7 July 1807, following the Tilsit peace treaty signed between Tsar Alexander I and Emperor Napoleon I, the town of Herceg Novi and its region came under French administration. The photo shows the view of the Bay of Kotor from the monument erected in 1919 on Ilinica Hill, a memorial to the French soldiers who died in the battles in the Kotor Mouths in 1806.
