We are delighted to welcome the town of Herceg Novi, the first town in Montenegro to have become a member of the European Federation of Napoleonic Cities.

On 16 June 2022, at the Federation's Board of Directors meeting, the city's mayor, Stefan Katić, and two representatives from the Department of International Cooperation, Ivana Palikuća and Jovan Subotić, presented their city's heritage to the other members.

The town's history is closely linked to that of Dalmatia and the Illyrian provinces of the First Empire. On 7 July 1807, following the Treaty of Tilsit signed by Tsar Alexander I and Emperor Napoleon I, the town of Herceg Novi and the surrounding region came under French administration. The photo shows a view of the Bay of Kotor from the monument erected in 1919 on the Ilinica hill in memory of the French soldiers who died in the battles in the Kotor mouths in 1806.
