Lodi celebrates its Napoleonic history – «Oltre la Battaglia 1796–2026»

On Saturday 7 November 2026, the City of Lodi will take another key step towards promoting its historical heritage by hosting the symposium «Oltre la Battaglia 1796–2026», which marks its membership of the European Federation of Napoleonic Cities – Destination: Napoleon.

Organised by the Municipality of Lodi in close collaboration with the Centro di Documentazione delle Residenze Reali Lombarde at the headquarters of Banca BCC Centropadana at 10.00 am, the symposium brings together historians, experts and enthusiasts to discuss the events of May 1796, a decisive moment that left its mark on the Lodi area and shaped the history of the whole of Europe. Presentations by Stefano Levati, Paolo Palumbo and Piersergio Allevi will explore the construction of the Napoleonic myth, the realities of war and the evolution of uniforms of the period.

Technological innovation and historical immersion

One of the highlights of this event is the synergy between historical storytelling and digital innovation. Thanks to the partnership between FECN – Destination Napoleon and the company Sandora, visitors can enjoy the immersive virtual experience «Napoleon: The Glory, the Fall, the Legend». On display at the Sala Granata in the Biblioteca Laudense from 5 to 15 November 2026, this virtual exhibition offers a unique journey into the heart of Napoleonic history, combining historical rigour with cutting-edge technology for the benefit of the general public and younger generations.

An urban route integrated into the European network

The afternoon, from 3.00 pm, is devoted to exploring the city on foot with a guided tour of its most iconic sites: from the Napoleon Bonaparte Bridge, built to replace the old bridge over the River Adda made famous by the Battle of Lodi, to Piazza Ospitale, taking in the bell tower of the Chiesa di San Francesco, the Palazzo Vescovile and the Palazzo Sommariva.
