
Two days of events in Bard, in the Valle d'Aosta (IT), to mark the historical re-enactment of Napoleon Bonaparte's passage with his troops in May 1800 during the second Italian campaign. The sixth edition of Napoleonica, inaugurated on the evening of 30 July, is being held this Saturday 31 July and Sunday 1 August, and is one of the activities to have been awarded the 2021 Bicentenary of the Death of Napoleon label by the European Federation of Napoleonic Cities.
The French Reserve Army descended from the Gran San Bernardo and invaded the Aosta Valley, laying siege to the Fort de Bard, After two weeks, they capitulated, but with the honour of their arms.
The historic event will be re-enacted by around a hundred re-enactors who will bring to life scenes from military and civilian life at the time. Two days rich in initiatives that will offer the public an engaging and immersive experience. Men and women in period dress, cannons, encampments - everything will take you back to the early 19th century.
On Sunday 1 August the stamp created by Poste Italiane on the initiative of the FECN will be cancelled, in the presence of Eleonora Berti, Director of the FECN-Destination Napoleon, and the afternoon event will be closed by Charles Bonaparte, President of the FECN-Destination Napoleon.
The stamp and postcards produced in a limited edition for the occasion reproduce the logo of the historical reconstruction and the aerial view of the Fort and the village of Bard. At 12 noon, a stamping ceremony will be held in the presence of Silvana Martino, Mayor of Bard, Ornella Badery, President of the Forte di Bard Association, Eleonora Berti, Director of the European Federation of Napoleonic Cities, and Annamaria Gallo, Head of Philately at the Espace Macro Nord-Ouest.
