On 4 October 2023, the town of Auxonne in France joined the European Federation of Napoleonic Cities.
In October 2023, we were delighted to welcome Auxonne, France, as a member of the European Federation of Napoleonic Cities.
At the Royal Artillery School in Auxonne from 1788 to 1791, Napoleon Bonaparte, then second lieutenant in the Régiment de la Fère, learned his trade and laid the foundations of his intellectual training. He learned ballistics, tactics and strategy. A bronze statue of a young Napoleon Bonaparte in artillery uniform was erected in the Place des Armes in 1857 to commemorate his stay in Auxonne.
