The city ofAlmeida organised the 19th edition of the Almeida siege from Friday 25 to Sunday 27 August 2023.
The historical re-enactment recalls a historic event from the 19th century, when the Napoleonic invasions took place and Almeida resisted the advance of the French army on Portuguese soil. The re-enactment of these episodes takes place in Almeida with absolute rigour. It is the most important event organised by the municipality, attracting thousands of visitors to the region.
On Friday 25, a gala ball was held in front of the town hall and tavern delicacies were served. Saturday 26th was devoted to cultural activities, including a night-time re-enactment, preceded by a military parade and a fireworks display. On Sunday, the historical re-enactment of the Portuguese troops' resistance to Napoleon took place near the Porta de São Francisco.
