The European Federation of Napoleonic Cities is pleased to announce the arrival of a new member: the Municipality of Ancona, in Italy. This addition further strengthens the Council of Europe's Destination Napoleon Cultural Route network.
Ancona, a strategic port city on the Adriatic coast, is also a place marked by Napoleonic history.
During the Empire, Ancona, which was part of the Kingdom of Italy under Napoleonic rule, played a key military and commercial role, not least thanks to its port. Napoleon's administrative reforms and modernisation of the port had a lasting impact on the region.
Ancona's membership of the European Federation of Napoleonic Cities is a natural step towards highlighting this historic dimension of the city and its links with the territories of Montenegro and Croatia.
With its arrival, the European Cultural Route "Destination Napoleon" continues to strengthen its role as a showcase for a shared heritage and a catalyst for cooperation between European countries.
The city of Ancona, with its rich history and dynamism, will undoubtedly be a dynamic player in the growth of the network, which today brings together cities and institutions of historic importance across the continent.
